I want to be a ‘flâneur’ again

I want to be a ‘flâneur’ again

You might wonder what does ‘flâneur’ mean.

Well, it is a beautiful concept in French, which I learned many years ago and it’s used to describe those that stroll the city  without hurry, those that wander… those that just ‘are’ without having a precise aim.

When I learned about this idea at uni in Sydney, I found it very romantic and also a bit abstract. Yet, by living in France I have perfected my own art of ‘flâner’ (vb).

In these unusual times we live in, that is probably what I miss the most about my day to day life, and especially my weekends.

I miss the sunny weekends getting lost in the old streets of Nice and discovering hidden gems (patisseries, shops, old churches, squares).

I miss the freedom of being able to get out of house without knowing where I am going and when I will be back… of letting my steps take me places I haven’t been to, of being surprised and losing track of time because this city intrigues me so much and the more I get to know it, the more I feel it was always meant to be. Our love affair is just starting…

So, yes… I miss aimless roaming around, little adventures, the feeling of amazement, and the state of being an adopted ‘flâneur’.
