A childhood favourite
Today I went to a Business Breakfast Briefing held by the British-Romanian Chamber of Commerce (BRCC). The topic, although not something that I know much about or take an interest in – the financial industry – was interesting and well covered by the multiple speakers. But more importantly, I got to meet BRCC Board members and various other individuals from the business world. I have to admit, I also enjoyed a nice British breakfast which, as always, helps to start a good day!
After the breakfast reminder of the UK days, I was ‘hungry’ for something sweet. And my mind immediately travelled to a Romanian childhood favourite, the “cartofior” (the potato). The dessert is by no means made of potatoes! It probably received this name from its shape, a potato lookalike (more or less).
Here’s a photo I took from the web (I ate mine too quickly!), so you can have an idea! It’s a very simple recipe and basic ingredients: biscuits, cocoa, nuts, butter and chocolate! Easy to do and good to eat! As I was complaining in a previous post, I do miss French cuisine and especially desserts and patisseries but this particular dessert is very yummy and a reminder of my kindergarten days 🙂 An old time favourite, to brighten up a autumn day!
And… did I tell you that is super cheap?? 6 lei only, which means 1 euro 29 cents approx. What more could one want? … maybe a second ‘potato’! 😀
Advice: For expats and anyone visiting Romania wanting to try the local cuisine – it’s definitely a safe bet! Unlike other Romanian desserts it doesn’t have rum, nor is it full of syrup as so many seem to be. I’d give it a shot.
