La vie en rose

La vie en rose

‘La vie en rose’ – French expression that may have originated in the XVII century and which links to the colour pink, as a symbol of happiness. La vie en rose is then a way of saying that someone is optimistic, joyful, happy.

At the same time, it is the title of a 1945 world renowned song by Edith Piaf, later on interpreted by Louis Armstrong (and many others).

In the current climate, it seemed essential to me to remind ourselves of the things we have. And to be thankful for them. Many of us are healthy, have a roof over our heads, food to eat and are still able to work from home.

Most of all, we have family and friends that care for us and with whom we may be in more contact now, then before (thank you internet and the modern world!). I, like many others, have zoomed with colleagues, had a drinks with friends on video and talk to my parents and my better half each day. We are physically apart, yet we are still very much together and there for each other.

This is my interpretation of seeing ‘la vie en rose’ in times of a global pandemic.

And because I also actually really like the colour and it truly sends a happy and joyful vibe, I bought myself some pink roses today.

What are you thankful for today? What is your current vision of ‘la vie en rose’?
