December joy
I don’t know how you feel about the month of December but in the last few years it’s become one of my favourite times of the year! Sure, it helped living in Strasbourg, the “Christmas Capital”, with all the beautiful lights adorning the city, the natural Christmas tree in place Kleber (which I could see right from my window) and the Christmas market with all kinds of goodies! But I feel the same type of excitement now, being in Bucharest.
I enjoy being at home, while it gets dark sooner, having a hot chocolate and sleeping under my cozy Zara winter blankets. It’s a time of organising holidays with family, travelling, buying presents… what could be more exciting?
It’s also a time of ‘falling back into childhood’ and for me that means an appetite for childhood animation movies and sweets. 🙂 It’s comforting going back and revisiting those moments of pure joy and no responsibilities.
I revisit memories of December past, of holidays with friends, of different places and with it different habits. From Colombian villancicos (Christmas carols), to Chrismas BBQs and sunshine in Sydney, to typical fairytale like German Christmas with snow, wool socks and mulled wine by the fireplace.
Yes. That’s what I miss now… A nice fireplace and some snow outside. December – I’m so happy you’re here – and with you, you bring a time of joy and peace and the chance to close a chapter to start fresh in the new year!
