English breakfast or pain au chocolat?

English breakfast or pain au chocolat?

Ah, if it were that easy!!! How can you actually pick???

Yes, some days I feel like pain au chocolat while others I really need a serious breakfast that I know will last me all day. Some days I need the sugar rush, the chocolate inside and the crispy outside of a delicious typically French patisserie…yumm… other days I need my bacon, eggs and most of all, my beans! That’s the proper way to start the day and the Brits know it!

Most people would probably say that I don’t need to pick, I can have both depending on what I feel like that day. But what if I want both? Let’s say that if this would really be only about breakfast, the eating both solution would lead to slight 🙂 weight gain however, I would be at peace with myself.

BUT this is not only about pain au chocolat and English breakfast! No, no… this is about much more… and those of you having lived in different countries for extended periods of time, will get me completely.

You may be expats, TCKs/A (Third culture kids/adults), global nomads… you travel for work, accompany your spouse/family etc. You get attached to the little things in different places and integrate them to your life as if they were there from the beginning. Maybe this is how you cope, how you feel you’ve managed to somehow “integrate” to local society, like a chameleon changing colours, so you fit it into the environment…

So, now that you’re attached to many little things from many different places, you’ve taken with you  specific smells, sounds, images, and you’ve also given some of yourself, leaving behind   a piece of your heart in every place you’ve been and with every person you’ve cared for… now, or sooner, or later you might feel the need to stand still.  And you might manage… for a while.

However, you’ve lived the life of an explorer, of an adventurer. Your days were exciting, you saw new things and met new people, change was your friend…! New country, new language, school/work, friends, music, culture… addictive? Hell, yes!

Can an explorer stop exploring? Can an adventurer stop seeking new experiences? Should a bird not fly? Why then give it wings?

… I think I’ll have a pain au chocolat tomorrow morning and a big English breakfast this weekend. For now.

This is my info
