A world in itself – Victoria and Albert Museum
These days nothing can stop me from enjoying Kensington Gardens and surrounding areas… not even the very annoying rain. According to the calendar we are now in July – 7th month of the year, “warmest month in most of the Northern hemisphere”. REALLY?
Living in London, I should let go of the sunshine expectation but I am sure that while I was suffering a year ago in Madrid exactly because of the opposite reason, the summer here was lovely. What happened this year?
Even if I am rather disappointed with the current crazy weather (it is apparently more rainy than usual), I no longer function ‘as normal’ – thinking that I would rather stay in and wait for the rain to stop, wait for the sun to come out, plan a lovely picnic for the day after… there is no point, one can never be sure and should act regardless!
Last Saturday, although a bit of a miserable day weather wise, I bravely stepped out of the house with an umbrella under my arm (decided to view it as a fashion statement, so I bought a really cute one – with weather forecast print on it) . My feet ended up taking me once again to Victoria and Albert Museum. This place enchants, transports to other times and other worlds; full of so many wonderful items it is impossible to take everything in from only a visit.
Every time I leave V&A, I leave thinking that I need to see more, that I might be missing out on something, that I should come back. I leave feeling peaceful, happy, connected to beauty and spirituality – across the world, time, cultures and people.
The highlight this time around was the Fashion room. Although naturally drawn to fashion and an interest history, the opportunity to see the defining moments of the fashion world, never came. Until now. I enjoyed all the displays, but the favourite was (as expected, due to my weakness for French designers and timeless, sophisticated, feminine pieces) Golden Age of Couture 1947 – 1957, the New Look, Christian Dior. I am yet to see the very special exhibition British Design 1948 – 2012. V&A calls yet again.
Below some photos from Saturday (my Blackberry camera does not do them justice).
